UMOJA TANZANIA

In 2021 alone, Umoja reached 1104 youth through our community youth clubs and International Youth Day events. They also impacted more than just youth. 

• 462 parents and guardians attended mental health and addiction training in 2021 with 5 cases then referred to Arusha Mental Health services for closer case management and support 
• 386 community members attended human rights training in 2021, with 4 cases then referred to Inherit Your Rights legal services. Two were resolved, 1 is criminal case and still in progress with the help of Inherit Your Rights, 1 is a serious domestic violence criminal case and is in progress in court. 
• 548 community members attended sexual reproductive health training in 2021.
• 75 community members attended business skills training. Four women have started a charcoal business as the result of this training, recycling available resources i.e. paper, soil and leftovers from charcoal.

The real crystallizing moment was in understanding Umoja Tanzania's strategic plan. The 6th point was where Branches saw its opportunity to make a difference. 

1. Strengthen and develop Umoja’s fundraising model and improve financial sustainability.
2. Strengthen and develop Umoja’s internal and external communications.
3. Equip vulnerable youth with knowledge and skills to safely transition into adulthood.
4. Equip vulnerable youth with education and skills to gain meaningful employment.
5. Provide quality education to vulnerable youth in Tanzania.
6. Transform our new site to be fit for our purpose and then move operations.

Reading this, Branches Community Projects knew they had to get involved. We put our heads together and came up with a plan to assist in the site build, operational management, and sustainable legacy development from an are consultation, project oversight, and financial support.
